Cupcake Masters

Since I'm still housebound, there was no real "getting dressed" today, but James did come by for a visit (finally he didn't have to work ALL DAY!) and we made some master cupcakes for his family  mine. We had originally planned on baking a pie, but obviously you can't split a pie in two (at least not easily) so I made the executive decision to bake cupcakes from scratch - icing and all! We found some awesome cupcake papers with glow-in-the-dark ghosts on them (ideal for finding them in the dark when sneaking into the kitchen for a late-night snack) but for some reason couldn't find Halloween sprinkles ANYWHERE! Maybe because Halloween's only a couple days away...

We used the recipe for white cake from the Joy of Cooking (my favorite go-to cookbook - the copy I have in my apartment is such a mess, full of spills & post-it notes from previous experiments) and the recipe for cream cheese frosting. Yum! They were PERFECT!

Finally, I can't believe I've never read Catcher in the Rye. I started reading it this afternoon, and I can't put it down. It's supposed to rain the next few days, so I'm glad I've found an amazing book to occupy myself...

  1. Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books. Your cupcakes look so damn good. I wish I could have one of them. I haven't had a cupcake in a long time! Yummy =)

  2. Yummie cupcakes!!

  3. My favorite color is Orange. Strange I know, But perfect for your cupcakes! They look wonderful! I also have never read Catcher in the Rye, but due to the associations of orange and cupcakes and the cover being gorgeous and orange, I suddenly feel compelled to. Thanks. You never know were blog traveling will take you.

  4. the cupcakes look great! I cant believe you made them from scratch, congrats!

  5. Yummy.. I'm craving cupcakes for breakfast now!
